Destination Guide: Istanbul, Turkey

Lying between Europe and Asia on the Bosphorus Strait, Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey.

Known for its world-famous scenery, magnificent structures and cultural influences dating back centuries, it is easy to see why Istanbul is recognised as the historical epicentre of Turkey.

The city’s heritage is reflected in many of its incredible landmarks, including: Aya Sofya, one of Istanbul’s most cherished landmarks; Topkapi Palace built in the 15th century; Basilica Cistern an underground palace-like hall; and the Blue Mosque which was built between 1609 and 1616.

The city is also home to The Grand Bazaar, one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world. Forming a rainbow of colours, thousands of stores line the streets of Istanbul selling local handmade jewellery, rugs, carpets, spices, antiques, and local delicacies.
